The single span precast/prestressed hollow core plank bridge built in the 80’s had its original bearings smashed and seizing which restrained thermal expansion. The repair project included substructure repair and waterproofing, replacing the beridge bearings by new as well as replacement of the asphalt overlay. Structural Specialists Inc. was hired to design and implement the bridge jacking and bearing replacement operations required by VDOT. A total of 16 bearings were replaced. substructure crack repair and epoxy waterproofing were also part of the scope performed.
